This Week: Alternate Takes (Covers)

(there’s a secret on this page…)

The Premise

This isn’t your average radio station. It’s a time machine, a sonic archive, and a rebellion against the algorithm. Here, the songs are chosen not by formula, but by the fates of the Universe—random, mysterious, and occasionally spot-on. We don’t just dig deep into the forgotten corners of music history—crates of vinyl, dusty promo CDs, rare B-sides, and digital obscurities—we also celebrate the well-known and well-loved tracks that still deserve to be heard with fresh ears. Every play is a chance encounter, a moment of discovery, or a reminder of why a song mattered in the first place.

No two shows are the same, and that’s exactly how we like it. All you have to do is listen—and let the frequencies find you.

The Rules

For LPs and CDs, I choose the song. For compilation albums or best-of collections, the song is selected randomly. If it’s a 7-inch or CD single, Side A must be played—except for three randomly chosen moments during the show, when the B-side must be played instead.

For CD or 12-inch Maxi-Singles, I choose the remix version.

I also have a large collection of DJ Promo CDs from my time as a mobile DJ, and there is a chance that one will be played during any given segment; when this happens, I choose the song. These DJ Promo CDs span the years 1998 through 2018.

It is also possible to hear more than one song by the same artist during a show.

Lastly, I reserve the right to overrule any selection at any time.

The Points

You can earn points during each show, but you’ll need to keep track of your own total—I can’t be bothered doing in for you.

At the start of the show (or when you first tune in), you can try to predict a song I’ll play. If you guess the artist, you get 500 points. If you get the artist and song, you earn 1,000 points.

Occasionally, we’ll play Guess that Groove, where you’ll get 4 clues to guess a song, artist, or album. If you guess it after the first clue, you get 400 points; second clue: 300; third clue: 200; fourth clue (before the song starts): 100. If you guess after the song starts, you get nothing.

At a random point, we’ll also play Connect 3—three songs in a row with a hidden theme. If you guess the theme during the first song, you earn 500 points; second song: 200; third song (before the reveal): 100.
